Our
Civic Project - The Jewel Box Lily Ponds
Pond-O-Rama, the annual pond and garden tour of the SLWGS, provides
funds that help the society design, plant and maintain its annual
gift to St. Louis--the lily ponds in front of the Jewel Box in Forest
Park.
Each spring, volunteers from the St. Louis Water Gardening Society
plant and place in the pools tropical and hardy water lilies, lotus,
umbrella palms, papyrus, water cannas and other aquatic plants.
As plants grow and develop, members meet every Saturday morning
to trim, fertilize and "dead-head" plants in the pools.
In the fall, Society members remove the plants that are to be saved
for the next year, preparing the pools to be drained for the winter.
